May 18-24 is National EMS Week
Celebrate the emergency medical services during National EMS Week from May 18-24. This week brings together local communities and medical personnel to publicize safety and honor the dedication of those who provide the day-to-day lifesaving services of medicine's "front line."
The 2008 theme of National EMS Week is "Your Life is Our Mission," a recognition of the commitment that emergency medical personnel make to the communities they serve. This dedication of EMS providers to their mission ensures round-the-clock care to communities across the nation.
Organized by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) and supported by a network of partner organizations including the NVFC, EMS Week features national and local activities to honor EMS providers and raise public awareness about health and safety issues, including how to prevent injuries and what to do in a medical emergency.
For more information, including a National EMS Week Planning Kit, media relations tools, a sample EMS Week Proclamation, ideas for planning and promoting EMS Week events, and more, visit www.acep.org/emsweek.
You can also honor your department’s volunteer EMS providers during EMS Week by nominating them for the President’s Volunteer Service Award, which recognizes volunteers that have served a certain number of hours over the course of a year or lifetime. The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) is a Certifying Organizations for this national honor. To nominate a volunteer, email the NVFC at nvfcoffice@nvfc.org and include the nominee’s contact information, a detailed description of his or her service, and the number of hours volunteered. Learn more about the President’s Volunteer Service Award at www.presidentialserviceawards.gov.
