CEDAP Grant Period Now Open

The application period for the Commercial Equipment Direct Assistance Program (CEDAP) is open until June 30. The CEDAP is an important component of the Department of Homeland Security’s preparedness efforts. The program aids smaller jurisdictions and eligible urban areas by directly transferring specialized commercial equipment, equipment training, and equipment technical assistance to enhance regional response capabilities. FY 2008 funding is valued at $16 million.

Designed for emergency responders to improve disaster response, the CEDAP offers equipment in several categories, including: extrication devices; thermal imaging, night vision, and video surveillance tools; chemical, biological, and radiological detection tools; information technology and risk management tools; and covert vehicle tracking tools. Requested equipment should fit the needs of the state’s Homeland Security Strategy. Equipment training and technical assistance is provided to recipients to ensure it is used safely and properly.

To be eligible to receive funding, applicants must be able to express a need for the equipment with regard to improving emergency response and must not have received technology funding under the Urban Areas Security Initiative or the Assistance to Firefighters Grants program since October 1, 2006. Applications should be electronically submitted by June 30 through the Responder Knowledge Base web site at www.rkb.us. Questions regarding the CEDAP process should be directed to the Centralized Scheduling and Information Desk at 1-800-368-6498 or askcsid@dhs.gov.
