
Committees
The Chairperson or the Board of Directors may, from time to time, appoint committees as required by the work of the corporation within thirty (30) days following the meeting at which he or she is elected. The Secretary shall notify each Director of these appointments within forty-five (45) days of the closing of said meeting.
Any committee will be composed of a majority of Directors or Alternates. Only one Director or Alternate Director per state may serve on a committee. Any committee of less than two (2) may be composed of a Director or an Alternate Director.
The Chairperson may appoint a representative from an outside organization to a committee with the approval of the Board of Directors or Executive Committee.
Standing Committees for the well being of the corporation shall be: Audit & Finance; Bylaws; EMS; Executive; Legislative; Membership/Awards. Other committees are created on an as needed basis.

The Audit & Finance Committee monitors the financial aspects of the organization. The Committee recommends the annual budget to the Board, reviews budget requests and makes recommendations to the Board and performs the annual audit.
Bylaws
The Bylaws Committee receives requests for changes to the Bylaws and forwards these to the Board with their recommendations. The Committee notifies the Board if the organization falls in conflict with its Bylaws and notifies the Board of needed changes.
EMS
The EMS Committee monitors legislative, regulatory or standard issues affecting EMS requirements. The EMS Committee notifies the Legislative Committee of their recommendations on any such issues.
Executive
The responsibilities of the Executive Committee is to operate and conduct the business and affairs of the corporation, according to the orders and resolutions of the Board of Directors, and to operate and conduct such business at its own discretion, whenever and wherever it is not expressly limited by such orders and resolutions.
Legislative
The Legislative Committee monitors legislative and regulatory issues affecting the fire service. The Committee makes recommendations to the Board to support legislation, support but not actively or to oppose legislation.
Legislative Subcommittee: Wildland Fire Issues
The committee monitors legislation and regulations affecting America's wildland fire service and makes recommendations to the Legislative Committee.
Membership/Awards
The Membership/Awards Committee is kept up-to-date regarding the latest membership figures for the organization, recommends methods of recruiting and retaining members and recommends membership benefits. The Awards portion of this committee reviews nominations and selects the recipient for both the Firefighter of the Year Award and the Marc Mueller Fire Prevention Award for Excellence.
Conference/Education
The Conference/Education Committee reviews each national trade show the organization has exhibited and determines if it is in the best interest of the organization to return there. The Committee recommends where the organization exhibits to the Board. Under Education, the Committee monitors any Seminars conducted by the organization and makes recommendations to the Board as to whether to continue them, where to hold them and the topics.
Cooperative Agreement
The Cooperative Agreement Committee monitors current cooperative agreements.
Disaster Relief
The Disaster Relief Committee is notified of any disasters and relays information to the Board.
Nominating
The Nominating Committee runs the elections of Officers and Executive Committee.
