| Death |
Funeral:
Employer shall pay funeral expenses not to exceed 10 times the maximum weekly benefit rate. Burial expenses shall not exceed 5 times the weekly benefit rate. Payments paid directly to the mortician and cemetery selected by the family or next of kin. If expenses are prepaid, benefits go directly to the survivors or next of kin.

| Workers Compensation |
If a volunteer firefighter is injured in the line of duty, he or she is entitled to compensation and for the purposes of compensation is considered to have earned wages for his or her services. The assumed wages of the volunteer are based on the volunteer's earnings from regular employment or earnings at the rate of $18 per week, whichever is greater. |

| Legal |
Firefighters prosecuted for any crime or acts done in the performance of his/her duties as a firefighter are represented and defended. In the case of criminal and traffic violations, the firefighter is represented and defended by an attorney employed and paid for by the local government. In civil cases the firefighter is represented and defended by the corporation's counsel or the county attorney. |

| Malpractice |
Volunteer firefighters rendering firefighting services are not liable for any civil damages resulting from the firefighter's acts or omissions, except in cases of gross negligence, wanton acts, or omissions. |
