Workers Compensation:
For Workers' Compensation purposes, volunteers are treated as employees of the municipality with a monthly wage of $2,000 and entitled to benefits of that municipality. Benefit is 2/3 of this monthly wage. All medical bills are paid. Upon remarriage, spouse receives a two-year lump sum and benefits terminate. Unmarried children are considered dependent until age 18, age 22 if full-time students at an accredited vocational or educational institution, or longer if incapable of supporting themselves. If there is no spouse or children, dependent parents become eligible for limited benefits.

Child's Education:
Waiver of registration fees, laboratory fees, and expenses for required textbooks and course materials toward an undergraduate degree at a school within the University and Community College System of Nevada. Waiver ends after the child reaches age 23.

Education State Fire Marshal offers free training to Nevada firefighters. Programs offered at the central training center field offices, community colleges, and individual departments.

Workers Compensation The maximum benefit to those injured in the line of duty is 2/3 of the deemed firefighter wage. Individual districts, counties and towns have established disability wages for volunteers. Each department must provide workers' compensation for its members; each can choose a third party with which to contract in order to provide coverage.
Funding Grants for wildland fire equipment are available through the Division of Forestry. There are also grants from the Office of Traffic Safety for rescue and extrication tools.

Health Hepatitis testing is mandated by the state. Many jurisdictions require physical examinations in order to qualify for workers' compensation, but this is not a state program.

Malpractice By state statute, any volunteer firefighter who provides emergency care is not liable for any civil damages as a result of any act or omission not amounting to gross negligence.
Retirement Volunteers who are members of Public Employee Retirement System receive lifetime payments of $375 per month after 20 years with proportionally greater payments for those with 20 or more years of service.
