Death
One-Time:
The spouse receives a lump sum of $20,000. Additional $5,000 for one child or $10,000 total for two or more children.

Workers Compensation:
Weekly benefit is 70% of the deceased's average weekly wage from regular employment for spouse and additional 15% for each child, up to a maximum of 30%. The maximum weekly benefit is the state's average weekly wage. Upon remarriage, the spouse receives a two-year lump sum and benefits terminate. Unmarried children are considered dependents until age 18, age 23 if a full-time student, or longer if incapable of self-support.

Funeral:
Maximum of $5,000 for burial expenses paid to dependent, or if there are none, to the estate.

Pension:
Must be a member of the Firefighters Pension and Retirement System to receive benefits. $5,000 death benefit. Beneficiary receives an amount not to exceed 100% of the pension they would have received if firefighter had reached retirement date. If the firefighter dies from heart disease, injury to the respiratory system or cancer, death may be presumed line of duty. Payable to spouse or, if spouse dies, to children under age 18 or until age 22 if full-time student.

Child's Education:
Tuition waivers available for both resident and non-resident tuition, limited to a period of 5 years.

Benefits only available to active, dues-paying members of the Association. Accidental line of duty death benefit will be the greater of $1,000 or two dollars times the number of members enrolled in the Fund at the time of death awarded to the surviving spouse. If no surviving spouse, paid in equal shares to all unmarried children under age 18.
The Masons of Oklahoma have implemented a new program, "Firefighters Relief Program." It provides $500 to the next of kin to offset any immediate expenses.
Education Training is available from the Oklahoma State University Fire Service Training. Oklahoma emergency responders pay lower registration fees than all other students. Some classes may be taught in the local department.

Funding The "Volunteer Firefighter Employer Contribution Payment Revolving Fund" provides funding for pension plans through the State Treasury Department.
Health There is no state program, but some local jurisdictions provide Hepatitis immunizations.
Legal N/A
Malpractice The Good Samaritan law provides immunity to volunteer emergency responders who cause injury or damage in the course of their work or by any omission, except in the case of gross negligence.
Retirement All volunteer fire departments and combination paid/volunteer fire departments must be members of the LOSAP system with the exception of those volunteer departments who service unincorporated areas of the state. Vesting is 100% after 10 years. Maximum service credit is 30 years.
