One-Time:
The Public Safety Memorial Fund provides benefits of up to $25,000. It may also award the spouse an amount up to the equivalent of 12 monthly mortgage payments if he or she holds no mortgage insurance.

Workers Compensation:
Volunteers are covered only if the municipality has elected to provide coverage. In this case, the spouse receives a monthly payment of 4.35 times 66 2/3% of the state's average weekly wage. The spouse receives an additional amount equal to 4.35 times 10% of the state's average weekly wage for each dependent child up to a set maximum. If there is no surviving spouse, the children receive 4.35 times 25% of the state's average weekly wage. Children are eligible until age 18, age 23 if attending higher education, or longer if disabled. Upon remarriage, the spouse receives a lump sum benefit of 36 times the monthly benefit; monthly payments for eligible children continue.

Funeral:

Child's Education:
Deceased or Disabled Public Safety Officer Grant Program provides a benefit. All tuition and fees are paid at a state institution for undergraduate education of no more than eight semesters or four years. If the dependent is attending a private institution, compensation will be based on expenses at the University of Oregon. The student must attend full-time and have financial need.

Individual departments contract with workers' compensation insurance carriers. By state statute, departments are required to carry insurance with a minimum assumed wage of $1,500 and a maximum assumed wage of $2,400 for volunteers. |

| Health |
The Public Employees' Benefit Board may contract for health and dental benefits plans best suited to the needs of the department. This benefit is funded by the Public Employees' Benefits Account, but additional benefits, such as supplemental medical, supplemental dental, optical, accidental death or disability insurance plans can be added at the expense of the volunteer. The Board can also offer long term insurance plans at the volunteer's expense. |
