Workers Compensation:
The surviving spouse receives payments for 54 months of the maximum benefit allowable, which is the statewide average monthly wage; amount adjusted quarterly. Children are considered dependent until the age of majority or until age 21 if the child is physically or mentally incapacitated. Expenses for medical or hospital care are paid. If spouse can show exceptional need, the benefit may be paid in a lump sum. Additionally, each dependent child receives $150 per month until the age of majority; amount adjusted annually.

Pension:
Volunteer Firemen's Pension Fund. Must have been a member of the Fund prior to death. The surviving spouse receives a monthly lifetime payment based on the age at the time the member entered the pension plan.

Provides $1,000 benefit based on contributions from other Wyoming firefighters. Firefighter must have been a member of the program prior to death.
Education Training officers offer hands-on and on-site training. Departments may use the state fire library at no cost. The State Fire Marshal also hosts numerous classes throughout the year,
including HAZMAT training up to the HAZMAT technician level.

Workers Compensation All fire departments are required to cover their firefighters for workers compensation through the Wyoming Department of Workforce Services. The amount of the monthly payment depends on the severity and permanence of the injury. The firefighters wages are assumed to be the statewide average wage for the twelve months preceding the injury.

Funding State Loan and Investment Board provides matching grants for Capital Facilities improvements in regards to trucks, stations, and communications equipment for fire departments. Wyoming Division of Forestry provides low cost military equipment outfitted for wildland firefighting.

Health There is no state program; some departments provide physicals or immunizations to their own volunteers.

Malpractice Volunteer firefighters are personally immune from civil liability for any act or omission provided that the volunteer was acting within his or her scope as a firefighter and that the acts or omissions were not willful, wanton, or grossly negligent. Volunteers do not have immunity in cases of negligent operation of a motor vehicle.
Retirement Payments begin as early as age 60. The payment beginning date and the payment amount depend upon age, years of service, etc. Funding sources include the state and a percentage of insurance premium taxes, as well as a monthly volunteer contribution that in most cases comes from the department.
