Get Ready for Crash Responder Safety Week, November 14-18

Crash Responder Safety Week (CRSW) takes place November 14-18 and focuses on keeping responders safe during traffic incidents. This year’s theme is “Respect Our Roadside Heroes.” Use this time to educate the public about the importance of staying alert, slowing down, and moving over when passing a roadway incident as well as providing critical traffic incident management training to your department’s firefighters, EMS providers, and rescue workers. Here are resources to help:
- CRSW Resources: The National Operations Center of Excellence and Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have posted resources and tools for this year’s event.
- Kick-Off Webinar: The official kick-off webinar for CRSW will be held on November 14 from 1-2pm ET. Leadership from the U.S. Department of Transportation and national responder associations will share messages, testimonials, and a call to action as well as sign a national proclamation. Register.
- NVFC Webinar: To help train responders on traffic incident management best practices, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) hosted a webinar on November 2 focusing on traffic incident management considerations, tools, and improving the outcome so that responders stay safe on the roadways. This free webinar was sponsored by California Casualty. Watch the recording in the NVFC Virtual Classroom.
- Slow Down, Move Over Resources: All 50 states have “move over” laws to protect responders who are stopped on the nation’s roadways. To help educate the public of these laws and their role in protecting responders, utilize resources from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Emergency Responder Safety Institute, and the NVFC.
- Traffic Incident Management Training: Both the FHWA and the Emergency Responder Safety Institute have online traffic incident management training to increase safety at roadway scenes and prevent tragedies. Find additional information and training here.
