Volunteer Spotlight: Steve Myrum
Name: Steve Myrum
Title: Assistant Chief
Department: Ferry Township Rural Fire Protection District
Location: Manvel, ND
Why are you an NVFC member?
I like that the NVFC speaks up for all departments, large or small.
What is your occupation?
Driver’s license examiner
Why are you a fire service volunteer?
I like giving back to my community and helping people on their toughest day. We all need a little help sometimes and being able to help when people need it most is very fulfilling.
What year did you join the fire or emergency services?
2009
What are your memorable moments as a firefighter or EMS provider?
Seeing the relief on the face of a loved one of a patient or being able to save property of our citizens. On the lighter side, just about getting into a wrestling match with a guy in a blue speedo was memorable…
What contributions have you (and your department) made in your community?
We had someone reach out to tell us how our CPR training enabled them to help a stranger having cardiac arrest. Another community member told us they used the fire extinguisher we gave them through a grant program to put out a smoking material fire that burned all the siding off their home.
