Apply for a Community Wildfire Defense Grant to Reduce Wildfire Risks
December 3, 2024
The application period is now open for the Community Wildfire Defense Grants (CWDG), which help communities plan for and reduce wildfire risk. Communities, states, tribes, and nonprofits are eligible to apply for a grant.
Grants can be used to:
- Develop and revise Community Wildfire Protection Plans
- Implement projects described in a Community Wildfire Protection Plan that are less than 10 years old
Launched in 2022, the $1 billion five-year competitive grant program funded by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law prioritizes communities that are in an area identified as having high or very high wildfire hazard potential, are low income, or have been impacted by a severe disaster within the previous 10 years which increased wildfire risk and/or hazard.
Three applicant webinars will be held in December, with the recordings available soon after:
- Monday, December 2, at 2-4pm ET
- Wednesday, December 4, at 12:30-2:30pm ET (tribal focused)
- Friday, December 6, at 2-4pm ET
Learn more and apply for a grant by February 28 on the CWDG web site. Up to $200 million will be awarded in this third round of grants.
