Take Action to Re-Open the National Fire Academy
March 12, 2025
On March 7, the National Fire Academy (NFA) was closed as part of the Administration’s effort to evaluate its programs’ efficiency and alignment with their priorities. The NFA is closed indefinitely, and all in-person training is canceled.
Many first responders around the country depend on training from the NFA, whether in-person courses at the campus in Emmitsburg, MD, courses brought to state and local training facilities, or online training. The NFA offers unique, specialized training and courses that do not duplicate what responders are receiving elsewhere.
Take action to re-open the National Fire Academy. Use the NVFC’s Action Center to contact your Representative and Senators to explain the vital importance of the NFA and urge them to ask the President re-open the NFA.
Also, take this survey from the Congressional Fire Services Institute to share your story on the value the NFA has provided to you, your department/organization, and your state or district. Find more information on the NFA, including talking points, from CFSI here.
