New Courses Now Available in the NVFC Virtual Classroom

The National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC) has released two new on-demand courses in the Virtual Classroom.

Your Role in Community Safety Education

Your fire department is in an excellent position to increase community awareness and provide age-appropriate education about preventing home fires and addressing other life safety issues. At the same time, it’s essential to build rapport with the local news media to incorporate fire and life safety messaging into relevant news stories. This course, presented by fire prevention education expert Michael McLeieer, discusses strategic ways to develop a positive relationship with citizens, other stakeholders, and local media outlets to connect with the community, as well as existing resources and lesson plans available to enhance your fire prevention initiatives. This course will be free to all for the next month.

For Those Who Love a First Responder

Families can be the greatest source of support for firefighters, EMS providers, and rescue workers, so it is important they understand what their loved one is experiencing and how they can help. Instructed by Ali Rothrock, founder of On the Job and Off, this course educates spouses, friends, and family of first responders on the impacts of the job on mental health and what they can do to support their loved one. This course is being offered free to all thank to support from the Anheuser-Busch Foundation.

The NVFC Virtual Classroom features dozens of courses and webinars on topics of importance to the fire and emergency services. All courses are free for NVFC members. Not a member? Join for just $18 to access the training now. Learn more about the Virtual Classroom and view the catalog here.
