Share Your Community Home Safety Check Success Story

Vision 20/20 is updating their Fire Department Home Safety Visits How-to Guide originally published in 2014. The new guide will focus on successful case studies from diverse fire departments across the U.S., highlighting peer-to-peer guidance and practical tips on how to access high-risk homes to install free smoke alarms and educate residents. The goal is to motivate more departments to embrace a home safety visit strategy that will help reduce fire risks and keep people safe from fire and other injuries.

Volunteer fire departments have deep roots in the communities they serve. If your department has leveraged this knowledge and strong relationships to access homes and families in need, please share a summary of your story for consideration for inclusion in the guide. Include the following details: Brief description of your community (population and location) and fire department; data on the number of homes served, alarms installed, and impact on your community; and what advice you would give others to help them replicate your success with home safety visits. Photos of your fire department conducting a visit are very welcome.
