Volunteer Spotlight: Philip Stittleburg

The NVFC is celebrating our 45th anniversary in 2021. In honor of this, we asked some of our longtime board members their thoughts about the NVFC and the volunteer fire service. This week we spotlight past NVFC chair and current Wisconsin director Philip Stittleburg.

What is your current position in the volunteer fire service?
Fire chief

When and why did you become a fire service volunteer?
1972 – to support my community.

What year did you join the NVFC?
1979

What originally motivated you to join the NVFC?
I was appointed by the Wisconsin State Firefighters Association as director.

In your view, how has the NVFC changed since you joined?
Significantly greater national and international involvement and influence.

What has been the most rewarding aspect of your involvement with the NVFC?
The opportunity to meet exceptional people all over the world.

How has the volunteer fire service evolved since you first joined?
A marked increase in professionalism.
